wwoofmap.info – My New Project

I’ve been working on  wwoofmap.info since the beginning of summer to help people find volunteer opportunities on organic farms around the world in one single place! This simple app mashes Google API and a hard coded MySQL DB to show the exact locations of participating wwoof farms around the world. It benefits from all the functionality of an interactive google maps, but it also provides a search feature that lets users zoom a particular location. Moreover, wwoofmap.info allows farm owners to add their participating farms by submitting an online form which gets automatically published to the map once it has been approved by Me, the admin.

So, this all sounds great… but what is WWOOF anyways?

WWOOF is a world wide network – It started in the UK in 1971 and has since become an international movement that is helping people share more sustainable ways of living.

WWOOF is an exchange – In return for volunteer help, WWOOF hosts offer food, accommodation and opportunities to learn about organic lifestyles.

WWOOF organisations link people who want to volunteer on organic farms or smallholdings with people who are looking for volunteer help.
